Great scene, but where's that music from? I found the source cartoon recently but promptly forgot which one it was. My guess is it's either a Betty Boop cartoon or one filled with mice.
I didn't love everything about the new series when it was on (of course, they didn't give it enough of a chance to develop and find its groove), but this sequence was, without a doubt, the highpoint for me. Despite some choices I didn't love in other scenes, things like this allowed me to remember how brilliant these characters and John could be! Looking forward to seeing the ones that didn't make it onto the air and seeing more genius like this.
Glad to have stumbled across your blog John. Thanks for the inspiring content.
Back in the day, I was talking to Vanessa about joining your crew. She said you liked a few of my drawings. I think that was at the time when Nick took over and nothing became of it. O well. I have a nice career as a banker now (kidding)
Anyway John, your blog has gotten me drawing the day away!
That was one of the greatest dance scenes in animation history. It's a good tease for the dvd, this part is so cool on a bigger screen. The abstract backgrounds are great, i love those spiralled blotches.
2 pictures? Flipped around and gratuitously recycled? Oh well, I did something similar with my "monkey" dancing in my student film. Nice little dance none-the-less. Of course, a traditionally animated toon on the web, especially on Youtube, does NOT do it justice. The frame rate is all out of whack. It doesn't matter so much when someone posts their pointless home movies up on Youtube, but anything animated definitely suffers.
Oh, and incidently, I posted previously on here that these dvds will be available next December. I read that somewhere.
Ahhh one of my favorite moments. I actually loved ALL of Firedogs part 2...I never understood why it was criticized (online I mean.) Me and my friends were laughing through the whole thing.
I like it but it seems very different than your normal jam packed animations. I mean i'm guessing compared to the rest of the episode it's limited for a stylistic reason. I like it though, I can't wait to see the rest.
This moment (from Fire Dogs 2, Part One) is a fave bit, brilliant inspiration having Stimpy play a bright jig on the pan pipes (it sounds almost like you used a pennywhistle on the soundtrack, but who cares? ;o) the music is beautifully manic and joyful ), Ren Hoek has this wonderful expression of shall I say, ecstatic gratification, while doing this groove thang; reminds me of the Rowan and Martin Laugh-In sequences, showing the close-ups on the dancing go-go girls' bellys
oh crap, that must be part of that episode I missed, Spike wasn't showing commercials at all anymore at that point and I didn't even know if it was still on, so I missed the first half of that episode.
I haven't commented on this yet, but it's one of the most joyous things I've ever seen. The dance Stimpy is doing is so amusing. Everything is so cheery at this point. Fantastic.
That clip is hypnotic. I can't stop watching it. Stimpy seems to be in some sort of trance, as if he's been trained, no brainwashed, to whip out the panflute everytime Ren takes that stance. Like a guy under hypnose turns into a chicken when the hypnotist speaks the "magic word".
And the way Ren dances just makes me chuckle, the psychotic look on his face coupled with the silly dance, those two different things make it funny. I was expecting him to take out an axe and start chopping up Stimpy, but the fact that he didn't was hilarious.

Bravo.
hehehe, thanks for that -- I haven't actually seen a R&S cartoon in quite a while.
Words fail me.
That was... fantastic.
I loved that scene, I can't wait for the DVD so I can see it without all of the skipped frames.
Not sure if my copy of Firedogs 2 had the ending though - it seemed awfully inconclusive.
So John, when's the DVD gonna land up on our doorsteps?
Ren's dance actually made me giggle quite a bit. Good stuff.

I love this part, I watched it over and over. Imagine my suprise when I found out where the song is from...

Mr.K,
Congradulations J.K., another hilarous "WHAT THE FUCK ???" moment from Ren and Stimpy.

That's the best thing I've seen for days!
Yeah, I basically agree with the other "usuario anĂ³nimo" before me.
I love that part!
That is one of the most ridiculous random scenes ever...I love it. But yeah, when do we get to have the dvd?!?
PS: To anyone in internetland that can draw: please check out my latest post on my blog.

That's rockin!
he dances like me!
John,
Was that taken from an old cartoon? I think I've heard that version before.
Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
AHHHHH! Ren dancing horribly, and a close-up of his crotch! MY EYES! MY PRECIOUS EYES!!!!
Stimpy doesn't play the flute bad, though.
Ya know, Ren sorta dances like a friend of mine...
Can't wait for the DVD!
Betty Boop and Grampy! I love that song.
That scene was great, and very random. I love the coin sounds before the music. Great stuff! When's the DVD a-gonna be here!?
JOHNY BOY I WANT THAT DVD !!!!

It's beautiful!

When, John? When?

hahahah I fucking love it!
Congratulations John!!
This is just one of the many examples of why I love Ren&Stimpy...
Man, it made me forget all my troubles...
Me, as a huge bunch of others (see above) CAN'T WAIT NO MORE FOR THE DVD!!!!
Thats the best dance ever, it says so much while doing very little haha. Which lost episode is this from? I will guess Altruists
The song was provided by Dr Demento. It's the Maple City Four playing "Hold That Tiger".
See ya
Steve
Make that Maple LEAF Four
See ya

If Lyris is reading this: you have a scence incorrectly listed in that cuts page on "Jiminy Lummox". That hands scene is from "Hermit Ren"
BTW, nice dance there ;)
LOL now that was awesome.

Bring on the DVDs! This choppy you-tube clip doesn't do Ren & Stimpy justice.

it would be very funny if You tube sent you a cease and desist email.

Hey folks
I'm gonna post a whole bunch of frame grabs from Lost episodes tonight and tell you who drew them.

That's hilarious!
Isn't that the same song that the Fleichers used in the first Grampy cartoon?
The bad thing about the new Ren and Stimpys is that I can no longer watch them with my parents.LoL
